Yummy!

My daughter-in-law started something this week. She brought me a "Big Kid Grilled Cheese Sandwich" from Panera Bread. Oh my! I never knew what I was missing when I made my grilled cheese sandwiches with just American Cheese. It was so delicious that I had to try to make my own.

It just so happens that Thursday is my grocery shopping day. I didn't think about trying to copy this sandwich until I passed the cheese section. Not knowing what Panera had used, I just went looking for different cheeses. I bought some Mozzarella cheese and a double Cheddar with white and mild cheddar cheese.

I went in search of a good bread and decided to try some Semolina Bread with Sesame Seeds. The major reason I chose this loaf was because it was small. I knew I would never eat a whole loaf of French bread by myself and I didn't want to waste it. It was good choice! I also picked up some fresh bacon bits. I couldn't wait to get home and try it out!

After layering the cheeses on the bread I sprinkled it with some bacon bits and added the top slice of bread; spread both sides with soft butter and sprinkled with a little garlic and basil. I grilled it until it was golden brown in my George Foreman Grill. Perfect, just perfect and oh so yummy looking!

According to their web site here's their sandwich description.  "Gruyere, Vermont White Cheddar, organic American cheese and Applewood-Smoked Bacon grilled on our new All-Natural White Miche"

She also brought me a bowl of Vegetarian Creamy Tomato Soup which was amazingly good! Their description will make your mouth water!   "vineAsiago croutons"

I really don't know if my sandwich compares to Panera's sandwich, all I know is...

it was DELICIOUS!!

I'll never make a plain American Cheese sandwich again!

  2. The men in my life love their big boy grilled cheeses that I bring to the workplace often. I use what ever combo of cheeses that strikes my fancy and a lovely thin slice of prosciutto. I might have to try bacon bits now. Your pictures make me crave one right now.

  4. I never thought of using my George Foreman grill for grilled cheese sandwiches. I may have to get a new one! Your sandwich sounds delicious and all grown up. When I was a kid we made grilled cheese sandwiches with Velveeta and mayonnaise instead of butter. A few months ago I bought a tiny box of Velveeta and made one like that just for old times' sake. I still prefer cheddar-jack and butter, but that unique taste sure brought back memories! Your photos look positively edible!
