There are times that a photo can mean something special to us and it’s not even about the photo. This is just another photo of water flowing, sunshine, and tree branches. So, why is this photo special? Why did it stand out as one of my favorites this month? The answer is simple. It’s a reminder of a wonderful Sunday afternoon. After several days of working in the yard, cleaning out flower beds, raking, and burning leaves we just wanted to take it easy on Sunday afternoon. We pulled up a couple of lawn chairs and just sat enjoying the unusually warm weather. It felt good to soak up some sun after the many cloudy, dreary days we’ve had this winter. I wasn’t surprised when after a while Mr. H. became bored and wanted to do something. He never has been to good at just sitting around! We decided to take a drive in our '40 Ford Pickup. Driving the truck is something he loves to do and I never mind going along for the ride!! We were almost back home when I mentioned that I’d always wanted to find the Saline River. Even though it’s not very far away I’ve never seen it. Just for me, he turned the truck around and we went looking for access to the river. We did find a small park complete with picnic tables and a small boat ramp. He patiently waited, sitting at one of the picnic tables as I took pictures. To someone who is not interested in photography and really doesn’t get my interest in taking pictures of dried seeds, dead flowers and such, this was pretty special of him. He wasn’t the least interested in seeing this river, but he did it just for me!! Even after 40 years of marriage, I still need to know that I'm special enough to him, that he'll take the time and effort to make me happy! It wasn't a big deal. It wasn't a diamond ring or a huge bouquet of roses, but it meant more to me than either of those things would have.
So many times we take for granted the special people in our lives. I encourage you today to tell someone you love just how much they mean to you. Write them a letter, send them an email, call them on the phone, or if they're close by, give them a hug, a heartfelt smile and say "I love you for what you do for me. Thank you for loving me!"

What a lovely post Cathy. The love shows in both directions. I too like to look at a photo and remember a moment. I can remember the day in many of the images I've taken, even a year or more later. Sometimes vividly as you have done here. Glad you thought to ask and glad he answered your request.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.
What a sweet story - your husband sounds like a lovely and wonderful man. Mine would do the same for me - aren't we lucky?
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely memories that you have from this shot.
ReplyDeleteWhat a truly lovely story. You are one lucky lady with one super partner. Your story hit close to home, I may have to simply explain it in my heart post.
ReplyDeleteCathy, that really was a big deal. I'm glad you and your husband are so blessed in each other. I love the way photographs bring back special times and places. Those are the ones that always mean the most to me.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful post, my husband does things like that for me too and I feel so blessed. I think we picked good ones. :0)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post, Cathy! Like Kathryn mentioned in her comment, my husband is also one who does that kind of stuff for me. I understand how blessed you are.
ReplyDeleteIt is truly a gift to have someone in your life that will accompany you on the journey of something you love. Thank you so much for sharing this story Cathy, it reminds me of what I also have, a husband who is willing to turn around so that I can photograph a hotdog stand, just like yours. :) I so appreciate you participating in the Photo-Heart Connection! And I echo your last thought to others - We'd love to read your stories!!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful and I love your story that accompanies it. Those moments are always the most special and I love that you've celebrated it here.

ReplyDeleteWonderful story! I agree that sometimes we do tend to take people for granted, and it's important to make sure we consciously take the effort to show them exactly what they mean to us, even in the smallest ways. Lovely post and great image for PHC!
ReplyDeleteA beautiful story of your day. Telling our loved ones that we love them can be taken for granted but you reminded me how important it is to notice the signs of love and to tell the person they are appreciated. Thank you for this sweet post.
ReplyDeleteYour post was just lovely. What a beautiful day you captured, with words and your image. It's a blessing to be loved in those simple but profound ways. My husband, too, supports me, even though a lot of the time he doesn't "get it". That makes it even more special, doesn't it? I'll be giving him a hug when he gets home - just because. Thanks for reminding me of how lucky I am.
ReplyDeleteCathy, this is a beautiful picture and story. Thank you for sharing it with all of us.
ReplyDeleteNice post, Cathy. Full of meaning -- touches heart and soul!
