Picture Color - Days 27 -30

This is finally it, we're heading to the end of Picture Color. 

Day 27 - Going Back In time

We were to take a picture knowing that we wanted to process it to look like a vintage shot. I don't do a lot of processing, I pretty much like my photos straight out of the camera. This was a learning experience for me and I really had fun with it. I only have the free Picnik editing program, but there was plenty to work with. I decided to show you the original photo and the edited version. I took the chair and the quilt pictures on this day and the other two were out of my achieves.
In picnik I used a film grain and a 1960's effect.

This is an old house I spotted downtown on one of my photo shooting days. On it I used a cross-processing effect.

This is a replica of an old mill in Pugh's Park. I thought this one had a lot of contrasting shades in it, so I tried a sepia effect.

This was my favorite of the day...my favorite quilt made by my grandmother and my favorite place to sit outside. I used a holga-ish and a vignette effect. 

Day 28 - The Color Of Happy

Colors make us feel many ways. We were to seek out our happy colors today! I wandered around thinking about happy...what makes me happy...were am I happy. I'm always happy in my craft room. Fabrics fill a good portion of the room. This is my jar of mini fabric scraps. These little bits of past projects make me happy. I like the word "fabrics" on that little selvage scrap.

Day 29 - Sunrise, Sunset

Sunrise and sunset photos are among the most beautiful! I love the soft light of the morning sunrise and the brilliant colors of the sunset. Since I'm not always up at sunrise, I chose the sunset! You can see the rest of the pictures I took that night here.

Day 30 - Piecing It All Together

As an end to Picture Color we were to use our imagination and think of a way to mix and match colors together. I decided to do a collage of some of my favorite Picture Color images. 

That's it...Picture Color!!
I think I've learned more about myself in this class than any others. I've also learned to enjoy and appreciate every single color!

Picture Color - Days 23 - 26

 I was going to try and finish my Picture Color images today, but after realizing I took more than one shot on several days, I decided that the post would be too long. I'll finish tomorrow so I can begin to show you images from Picture Summer!

Day 23 - The Meaning Of Color

We had to come up with an image where the color choice meant something. Sometimes the color name itself means something and sometimes when paired up with an object the images mean something. I didn't explain that too well, but you'll understand when you see the images I posted.

"blue plate special!"

I don't think there are many restaurants that still offer "blue plate specials", that was what the special of the day was called!  I don't eat out a lot, so there may still be "blue plate specials!!" 

We all know that red means "stop."  This is a very close-up shot of the breaklight on my car!

Day 24 - A Library of Color

Books offer many things...on the inside or on the outside. We can be touched by books, either by the stories or the colors on the front cover or in the illustrations. We were looking for volumes of color therapy. I chose to photograph a few of my collection of children's books. I tell everyone I buy books for my grandchildren.  While this IS true, I buy books for myself. I love, love, love children's books. I love the illustrations and the stories. I enjoyed the gallery this day.  Seeing every ones images of books  was wonderful

My favorite author and illustrator is Jan Brett.  Her illustrations are such gorgeous works of art. Her images made me happy with all the bright colors. They tend to have a Scandinavian feel to them.  I have most of her books, but "The Three Bears" is among my favorites.  It's a timeless story that she illustrated so beautifully! I love the bear's bowls!!

 These are the books I could find among my collection that had the word "color" in the title or that were about color!  I was amazing at how many I had!!  My favorite is at the top, "Richard Scarry's Color Book, Mr. Paint Pig."  I've read this book hundreds of times, first to my children and to my grandchildren!! My image today brought back such wonderful memories.

We really try to limit our photos that we post to three a day, which is good thing because I could have gone on forever posting images of books.  Another favorite illustrator is the talented Robert Sabuda that does the most wonderful pop-up books.  This one is a counting book about yummy cookies and little mice! I always have a sense of amazement when I open his books.

 

Day 25 - Heavy Metal

 We were capturing metallic surfaces that were shiny, or brushed, polished or patina. Looking for reflections, sparkles, metal bling, texture or dull tone.

 My sister and I were out on a photo shoot this day and we decided to stop by the local library to use their wifi for working on her blog and uploading our pictures to our computers.  As we entered the main room there stood this unusual metal sculpture.  How perfect was that for this prompt!  There was no plaque, so I don't know who did it or it's name.  We thought it looked like the "world of knowledge."  The world seems to be exploding with all the knowledge available in the books behind it.

There were a couple of girls that posted pictures of old trucks.  When I showed them to my husband, he thought I should post one of his. So I posted this one also, our 1940 Ford pickup. He liked the way I featured the Cragar wheels. When he was a teenager in the 1970's  you just had to have Cragar wheels and now in his late 50's he still does!!

Day 26 - Watching For Whimsy

Our color prompt today was the concept of whimsy! Whimsy meaning "excessively playful expression."  Some synonyms for whimsy include fanciful, quaintness, and eccentricity.

Here I go with another one of my collection!  I promise I don't collect everything, but I do have a small collection of bee related things. My daughter and her family gave me this bee!  He is just the cutest thing and he makes me smile when I seen him!!

Picture Color - Days 13 - 22

I am bound and determined to blog about all my Picture Color images. So I'm adding another batch.

Day 13 - ordinary colors

We were to take a picture of ordinary color. A color that we see each day in an object we take for granted. One thing I've learned in this class is that I don't live with enough color!  I had to look long and hard for an idea of ordinary color. But, I finally saw my bath puff hanging from the faucet and it was such a pretty color.

Day 14 - making a statement

We were to look for colors that our eyes are drawn to and capture it in a way that says something about us.  My eyes are always drawn to vintage fabrics and colors and I'm a real nostalgic person.

Day 15 - playful pause

I thought this would be a fun day.  We were to be a child again and go play...seek something "childish" color to photography. I decided on marbles. I love marbles. But, as I remember it, playing marbles used to be fun.  But, now that I'm older it's not so fun...laying on a beach towel trying to get the camera on ground level...sweating because it was so hot...sand  sticking to my arms and legs.  Nope this was not fun anymore!

Day 16 - Nothing But Blue Skies

We were seeking out blue.  And we were to capture how it makes us feel. Blues can stimulate our senses or soothe us.

Anything blue makes me feel happy. After all, it's my favorite color!!

Day 17 - the color of light

The object of this prompt was to discover the variety of color that can be captured when shooting into direct sunlight. I tried and tried!! I've gotten flares before, but no real extra color.  I finally posted this shot.  How weird is that spot of blue.  Some one in Picture Color thought it looked like a champagne glass.  I think it looks like something spewing out of a bottle.

 

Day 18 - what's your shade

We got to share a little color from our "beauty regime". I'm not much of a make-up person especially in the hot summer, but I do like this shade of blush.

Day 19 - the color calm

We were searching for the color of calm. Sometimes our homes are in a chaos, but most of us have a place or room where we can go for calm. My calm space is in my extra bedroom that I call the "nostalgia" room. This is just a small corner of the room. I found this table at a flew market and redid it.  Since it has a "birdhouse" look I found this cute bird and nest to sit on top of it.

Day 20 - corrugated color

We were looking for solid colors that were interesting because of texture.  This is one my vintage hats from my "nostalgia" room. Another flea market find. It had a great texture.

Of course this feather has a lot of texture, it even looks corrugated!

 

Day 21 - ambient yellow

This was an unusal prompt. We were to shoot in low light and only with the surrounding light within the area.  This is called ambient light. It will usually give a golden, yellow color cast. I set this little collection up in my bedroom and only used the bedside lamp. The book belonged to my Mother and the glasses are my Grandmothers.  The flowers are just some wild flowers I found in the nearby woods.

Day 22 - inspired by color

Today's prompt was to  take a photo that was inspired by another photographer. On the day we were to shoot blue, BarbaraC, in our class. gave us a link to  blue hour photography. The hour in the morning and evening when the sky is the bluest. Then, KatyL tried it and posted her picture.  So, I was inspired by Barbara and Katy to capture the blue hour.  It was pretty amazing. I took this picture at 9:00 p.m.

Just one more post and I should be finished with Picture Color.  And I need to hurry because we're already into Picture Summer!!

Picture Color - Days 6 - 12

I'm finally back to bring you more of Picture Color!!  The month of fun is already over half-way done.  The prompts weren't quite what I expected.  I thought maybe we'd shoot blue one day, green the next and so on.  The prompts have been so different from that and I'm glad!!  We've learned many things about color, not just taking shots of color.

Day 6 - White on White

It's not always easy to shoot white.  Tracey encouraged us to play with light on our white objects. I've used my wreath of vintage white buttons before in Picture Winter. I took a shot of a white heart button. But, it was a sure thing for white on white.  I love the sparkle of light on the rhinestones!

Day 7 - Color Me Yummy

We were to shoot the yummiest thing in our kitchen. I could have baked something yummy, but I took the easy way out!! I had just bought some Cherry Frozen Yogurt and it was yummy!! 

Day 8 - Punctuation Mark

Today we were searching for a punch of color that inspires and delights our eyes. Now, I can't remember why, but I was in a bind this day.  I was gone most of the day.  So, I hurried looking for a bright spot of color and saw my pincushion collection.  My favorite pincushion will always be the strawberry.  I thought the shadow of the machine on the wall was neat.

Day 9 - The Texture of Color

With today's prompt, we were encouraged to discover and study texture. Color alone doesn't make a good photo...there's light, shape, and texture also.  There's no texture to me as wonderful as on a woven basket.  This basket was sold by a single woman who makes them to support herself and her family.  It's beautiful!! I love the leather handle.  The loop on each end of the handle allows the basket to be carried by two children. They each slip a stick through their loop and hold it to carry the loaded basket.

 I'm always finding mushrooms in my yard, especially in my shade gardens.  They are always great for showing textures.  There are lots of textures in this shot, the mushroom, the moss, and the mulch.

Day 10 - Creating With Color

We were to capture the color of some of our tools that we use to create with.  I've always liked the rainbow color of these quilt books.

Day 11 - The Best Of Both Worlds

We were looking for the charm of red and pink together.  I was stuck, I don't have much red in my house and I sure don't have red with pink. Then, Aimee came over. The bag she brought Aaron's swim clothes in was....red and pink!! Perfect for the prompt.  Red and pink do go lovely together!!

Day 12 - Seeing Spots

This day we honored the polka-dots we see around us.  Only, I don't have a lot of polka-dots!  But, as I walking down the hall I saw polka-dots.   They were on a quilt block made by my Aunt Marie for a quilt that was given to my Mom and Dad. Now I have the honor of owning it!!  I may be wrong but, I think the fabric was from one of her maternity dresses

Now you see what I'm talking about!! It's more than just colors!  And speaking of colors, I think I need more in my life!! These prompts would be so much easier!!

Picture Color - Days 1-5

Every moment of every day we  are surrounded by color. But, do we really stop to admire them, to soak in their beauty? Not really! We enjoy them but we just give them a passing glance. During the month of June I'm taking another class with Big Picture Classes. This one is Picture Color.  I think it's going to be my favorite!! Don't get me wrong, I love the seasonal classes, because I'm a seasonal person, but this is fascinating, wonderful, and enriching!!  Each morning we get a prompt inspiring us what color or color theme we are to find and photograph. I've found out real fast that I need more color in my life. I had to really search for some of the themes! Hope you enjoy my interpretation of color!!

Day 1 - Color Of Bliss

Our first day we were to photography colors that we surround ourselves with...colors that "bliss" us out!! Bliss means completely happy, and if you know me you know my color is blue!! Always has been! But, it was hard to find something I wanted to shoot!  This is the cover of a notebook I made for class called Inspiration Everywhere offered by Jessica Sprague.

Day 2 - Iconic Colors

We were searching for iconic colors...colors that are used in brand names or on products that we see everyday.  The green, yellow and red on the Crayola box are classic.  I wish I had left off the box on the left. The white seems to distract from the standard colors, but we learn as we shoot!

Day 3 - Changing Of The Guard

We were to observe color as it changed from one to the next or one color being revealed by another.  Of course, opening blooms are the perfect example, whether it's opening to a different color as in my first shot or the color bursting from the green bud like the second shot. When you stop and look, it's really amazing!!

My favorite summer flower is the Lantana, maybe because it's so hardy and heat resistant and tolerates my neglect!! And, they are so pretty in all their varied colors! It's funny, I didn't see the ants until I uploaded this on my computer!

 This is my Geranium. I love the deep color of this flower!

Day 4 - technicolor vision
Finding vibrant objects was our assignment for this day. We were looking for bold, bright colors that offered a kind of technicolor merriment.  I don't seem to have very many bright colors around my house. I looked and looked and then stumbled across the toys of my grandsons! They are bright and cheerful!

Day 5 - color of comfort

This one was easier, the colors that comfort me are the natural colors of nature! The colors of my starfish always seem so soothing to me...soft whites, ecrus and tans.

Each day of the class brings a new delight!!  I am so amazed everyday as I go to the photo gallery where we share our photos with each other. You wouldn't believe how creative and artistic  everyone is.  I love the way we think so different on a prompt and how we express that in our images.
