Scavenger Hunt Sunday ~ June 10, 2012

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

On Friday morning I packed up my cameras, snacks, water, and more snacks; then headed out to Pinnacle Mountain State Park (Arkansas).  I haven't visited the park in a while and knew they had a couple of nice walking trails. Since I'd procrastinated this week and had nothing for any of the prompts, I took my list with me. Here's a few photos from my day.

Our prompts this week were:
travel
silly
black and white
spots
paper

Travel
I didn't travel by jet to get to my destination, It's only about 45 minutes away. I took a leisurely drive through country roads. I did wonder where those people in the jet were traveling to!!

Silly
This silly raccoon had climbed up into one of the bird feeders at the visitor center and was filling up his tummy.

Black and white
This picture is SOOC (straight out of the camera). Along with my big camera, I took my small point and shoot camera. I didn't realize until I got home and uploaded the pictures that I had left it on the black and white setting!  That was perfect for this prompt though! The flowers on these bushes were covered in butterflies and they didn't mind having a camera stuck in their faces! The bush, called Rattlesnake Master (Eryngium Yuccifolium), was given it's name because some Native Americans used it's root as an antidote for rattlesnake venom.

Spots
One of the trails I walked was through the arboretum. I was the only one on the trail, well, there were a few dozen squirrels and beautiful songbirds! It was quiet and peaceful, surrounded with trees and plants native to Arkansas. I was so excited when this little fawn stopped on the trail and just stood there looking at me. I did manage to slowly get my camera to my eye and take several shots of the little fawn covered in spots.

Paper
Paper was the hardest to find. There wasn't even any liter laying around. In the arboretum some of the trees and plants had paper labels that were laminated. It's obvious why this is called the Devil's Walking Stick; it's covered with thorns.

I can't begin to tell you how much fun I had. For some reason, I didn't even seem to notice the heat and humidity as I walked the trails. Of course, most of them were very shaded. It was an enjoyable day and such fun finding photos for the prompts!!

  2. I like (despite the procrastination which I am also quite skilled at) that you were able to take all of these as a set in the park. That dear deer is a great shot and SOOC-wow. Happy day Cathy

  4. My favorite was the black and white. I would love to know if the cacti really contain anti-venom. It may save my life someday. One never knows....
