{in the picture} ~ March 2012

In The Picture

I'm still trying really hard to take my self-portraits each month. It's a little easier, I bought a remote for my camera. I'm not having to set the timer and then run to get in position!!  Being in front of the camera...still not so easy!  I have begun to feel more and more intimidated with the images that are posted! I'm not a free spirit, I'm shy, and self conscious. I want to be free and twirl or pose, but I only look silly!  I will keep trying though.

Our theme this month was black and white. I like that, it covers a lot of blemishes!!

I went to a local park and took a few shots. I was a little brave this time! There were a few other people around. I mostly hid from them. I didn't take my tripod, that would have been too obvious. I just set my camera close by and tried to relax; pretending I didn't care if they thought I was weird!!

I took my Artful Blogging magazine to give me something to hide behind!!
I felt better not looking directly at the camera!

Another shot, same magazine, different place!!
Tried the pencil sketch feature just for fun.

Soaking up a little sun!

This makes a total of twelve self-portraits I've posted...only forty to go!!!

  1. These are gorgeous! I love the first one of you smiling - mine always come out really unnatural, what's your secret?! I'm also very impressed that you braved a public place - well done - that wall makes a great background. Love the light in the last shot. Great set. :)

  4. My fave is that last one, though the magazine is a great idea. Not always easy to get in front of the camera, but the more I do it, the easier it gets. No twirling for me either.

  5. Cathy, these are lovely. I think my favorite is the one where you're sitting in that doorway (?) reading the magazine. I like the setting, those old stone walls add some interesting texture and a bit of mystery. The one you've turned into a pencil sketch is very good. It looks like a graphic illustration. I know it's not easy - I can so relate to that - and I'm really proud of you for persevering. You're doing great!

  6. You're doing really well with these shots, Cathy. Well done! I like the first smiling shot and the one of you reading the magazine mext to the wall. That pencil sketch feature is really fun. It really does look like a proper sketch! Pretty lighting in the last shot shining perfectly on your thick, curly hair.

  7. These are great! The last one is my favorite. You have managed to overcome the goofy grin that I always seem to have in my portraits. Your smile in the first one makes me smile along with you. Can't wait to see what next month brings

  10. Well done, Cathy! You really do look relaxed in these shots, in spite of your worries. The magazine shot is great -- the stone wall gives it such nice texture. I felt like giving up this month after I saw some of my selfies -- delete, delete -- but I am determined to overcome my shyness. Don't stop!

  17. These portraits are great, so beautifully done. I think we need to find the sort of selportraits that make us feel comfortable and they are those wich reflect something "real and true" about ourselves. But curiously, once we find them we start to understand that there are lots of layers to discover that will show new -and deeper- levels of our own nature...
