Photo-Heart Connection: January

We’ve had an usually warm and wet winter, so I wasn’t surprised when the dandelions began to sprout up around the yard. First the pretty yellow flower heads and then the fluffy balls of seeds. When I saw this dandelion and the one little seed hanging on, I quickly dropped to the wet ground and took several shots. And, yes I had muddy circles on the knees of my jeans!

Images such as this thrill me! I didn’t plan this one. I didn’t walk around it trying to find the best view. I didn’t adjust anything on my camera. I just quickly took a series of rapid shots. If I had waited even a moment the seed would have blown away in the wind. When I uploaded the pictures to my computer, my heart skipped a beat and I let out a big sigh!! Yes!! This is it!! This is what I love about photography, that I can capture a moment in nature before it blows away in the the breeze!

This reminded me how quickly moments fly by! I wonder how many times I’ve missed a blessing or simple joy because I let a moment slip by. I’m focusing on slowing down this year, enjoying each moment, and capturing these moments. Whether I capture them in a photograph or in my heart, I feel blessed and grateful for the beauty of nature and for the simple moments of everyday.

I'm very excited to be linking this post to the very first Photo-Heart Connection at Kat Eye Studio. I took several classes from Kat and this new link-up will help me continue on my journey of capturing images from the heart!  You really should click on the button below, read about this wonderful photography connection, and then read some of the other wonderful posts that have been linked. It's like inspiration heaven!!!

  3. Cathy, I love this photo so much! That one tiny seed, barely clinging to "Mom," sun glinting on its tiny "feathers" - ready to take flight. I appreciate your thoughts about slowing down to capture such special moments, with or without a camera.

  4. What a wonderful capture, Cathy! Simply exquisite! Yes, moments do fly by, but when we slow down we can capture something as fleeting as a dandelion seed.

  9. Thanks for sharing the moment we us. Breath taking when you realize that a breath could send the tiny seed into the air. I understand about the knees, who cares, jeans you can wash but we can't get back the moment.

  13. Love this statement Cathy: "I can capture a moment in nature before it blows away in the the breeze!" Your enthusiasm always comes through so loud and clear in your words, I love visiting here. Photography makes us more mindful, more in the moment all the time, doesn't it? Maybe that's the best heart connection of all. Thanks for linking in to the first ever Photo-Heart Connection!

  14. Gorgeous image and I love your words. I love that feeling when you a get shot that would have passed if you'd hesitated. I find the same thing with photography - it really makes me slow down and notice the details. It's such a magical thing and your photo really encapsulates that.

  15. First off-gorgeous capture-especially since it was just a quick snap without settings. Well spotted. Secondly-I love the way you've described how you felt when taking and then viewing this. As for dirty jeans-yup. When I think of it-in cold weather I take my right glove off to manipulate my camera and if I'm smart, I remember to put it on the ground for my knee. It helps. Happy day Cathy.
