Friday Finds & Random Facts

It wasn't hard to FIND something to photograph this week. We had a day of ice that led to many delightful finds. I was intrigued by all the shapes the ice made and also the textures in the formations. Ice makes pretty bokeh, too!

Some Random Facts from the week:

Fact  #1
I mentioned the ice day, but that wasn't all the weather news we had this week. One day our temps were the coldest we'd had in Arkansas in about 20 years!  Brr!

Fact  #2
I have pink insulated underwear!  I never thought I'd talk about underwear on my blog, but there's a first time for everything. Right?  It wasn't that I wanted pink when I bought them last year, it was that pink was all they had left! Pink is not one of my favorite colors. This week I'm so grateful for their added warmth that I don't care what color they are. See my fat feet...that's the result of multiple pairs of socks!

Fact  #3
I finally dismantled Christmas!  I still wasn't ready to take it down, but it was either take it down or dust it!

Fact  #4
Mr. H returned to work this week following his surgery and my dad came home from the hospital after his hip replacement.  Mr. H had a good day and my dad is so glad to be home.  Don't tell Mr. H, but I've enjoyed a little quiet, me-time this week!

Fact  #5
My favorite movie is "You've Got Mail." Oh, I wish they made more like that!  Anyway, in the movie Kathleen (Meg Ryan) visits the new Fox Bookstore where she overhears a conversation between an employee and a mother looking for the "Shoe" books. The conversation goes as follows:

       WOMAN SHOPPER
Do you have the "Shoe" books?

     SALESPERSON
The "Shoe" books?  Who's the author?

     WOMAN SHOPPER
I don't know.  My friend told me my
daughter has to read the "Shoe" books,
so here I am.

     KATHLEEN
Noel Streatfeild.  Noel Streatfeild wrote
Ballet Shoes and Skating Shoes and
Theater Shoes and Movie Shoes...
(she starts crying as she tells
her)
I'd start with Skating Shoes, it's my
favorite, although Ballet Shoes is
completely wonderful.

     SALESPERSON
Streatfeild.  How do you spell that?

     KATHLEEN
S-T-R-E-A-T-F-E-I-L-D.

     WOMAN SHOPPER
Thank you.

     KATHLEEN
They know nothing. They know absolutely nothing!

Now fast forward to today! After all these years I decided to read "Ballet Shoes" only there wasn't a copy in our library. How sad!  They did have the audio version, so I've been listening to it as I've put up the Christmas decorations. I must say, it's a delightful book and made better since the reader has a British accent.  Here's an extra fact. You've Got Mail is loosely based on a Hungarian play "The Shop Around The Corner" by Nikolaus Laszlo. The play was made into a movie in 1940 starring James Stewart.

I hope you have a lovely weekend. I know some of you still have snow, ice and freezing temps. I probably shouldn't tell you, but we're getting up in the high 50's this weekend and even 60 next week! That will be 40-50 degrees warmer than this week!!

  7. What? You're warming up? We seem to be getting colder. All my long underwear is boring black - yours looks very feminine!

  8. Love your ice shots...freezing rain is cold and causes lots of problems but it also creates a lot of beauty.

  11. I loved that movie, watched it for the first time a couple of years ago. Nobody sees your long underwear anyway, unless you take a picture of it and share it :) Mine are black and I have been wearing them a lot.

  12. Lots of fun and interesting facts! Love the ice-coated berries - so pretty and sparkly. And I had to smile - my reason for taking down the Christmas decorations was the same as yours :)

  13. You do make a celebration out of each day, don't you? You have a gift for both finding and sharing the best in photo and thought...

  14. I'm feeling jealous of all the photo opps with ice and snow -- that probably sounds crazy, but it looks so beautiful! I love the berry shots. I like both movies --- if you haven't seen The Shop Around the Corner, it's a good movie too.
