I've enjoyed seeing so many pictures of flowers this summer through the blogs I follow and through Flickr. I have to admit though, that other than a few Lantana plants and a few potted annuals, I don't have flowers blooming in my yard. I know, that's awful, but I just don't like the heat and humidity of summer. Therefore, I don't want to work in the garden to keep it nice. Instead I have three shade gardens full of Hostas, Ferns, and Azaleas that require very little care. A tiny bit of weeding, fertilizing three times a season, and that's it! That's not to say I don't love flowers because I do. I just love everyone else's!
So, when I have a hankering to photography flowers, I'm off to my favorite botanical garden. My destination this day was Gertrude Remmel Butler's Gazebo Garden. The garden was breathtaking...lush green from all the recent rains and filled with touches of color.
I won't bore you with words;
just a few quotes.
Enjoy!
"Tis my faith that every flower
enjoys the air it breathes!"
~ William Wordsworth
"Just living is not enough.
One must have sunshine,
freedom,
and a little flower."
~ Hans Christian Anderson
"Consider the lilies of the field how they grow;
they toil not, neither do they spin:
And yet I say unto you that
even Solomon in all his glory
was not arrayed like one of these."
~ Matthew 6:28-29
Kathleen Kelly: "I love daisies."
Joe Fox: "You told me."
Kathleen Kelly: "They're so friendly. Don't you think daisies are the friendliest flower?"
~ from You've Got Mail
Have a bright and happy day!
Have a bright and happy day!
You really do flowers very nicely! Are you sure you don't want your own?
ReplyDeleteI have no garden at all, but I love flowers, too. I've been collecting photos of them this summer wherever I can find them. Thanks for sharing yours - they're lovely!
ReplyDeleteoh cathy these are beautiful! and the nice thing about enjoying these on your blog today is that there are no mosquitoes! :)
ReplyDeleteI am right there with you, hate, humidity, weeding and bugs. Next house we are just planting dune grass, no maintenance at all :)
ReplyDeleteFlowers are beautiful. It looks like you had a chance to take a lot of pictures of flowers. Even in the heat they thrive. Loved the little bridge.
ReplyDeleteLovely blooms. I am not a gardener, it's too hot out there for me!
ReplyDeleteSo many beautiful flowers in your favourite botanical garden! I especially love the colour of the second one. A nice little hump-backed bridge to walk over to! I agree with Kathleen Kelly, I find that daisies are the friendliest flowers!
ReplyDeleteI am with Dotti and her comment but then I also know about heat and humidity. Our humidity index right now is 21% which is really low and great but our heat at 6:20am is 93 degrees. :) It is all relative. But to have both heat and humidity that is real nasty. The flowers are just wonderful, I got my lust for them when I was in Portland and Seattle, oh my, my camera and I were in heaven. I love the many different flowers of the day lilies. Can't you put some of those in around your place, They don't take much care I do know that and they provide so much love all summer.
ReplyDeleteI completely understand - I don't grow anything either! You have always exceled at beautifully capturing floral macros - and these are no exception. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI love that you used a quote from You've Got Mail! It's one of my all time favorites...very appropriate. Wow, how very nice you have a botanical garden nearby to enjoy all the beauty, but they do the work. That fire red day lily is just gorgeous, as are all these. I'm with you on heat and humidity...most of my flowers can tolerate about any weather, other than the roses need extra water and fertilizing.
